Gravity facilitates the implementation of a Bill of Materials (BOM) for light assembly processes. A Bill of Materials serves as a critical tool for generating a new Inventory Item through the assembly of various Inventory Items or sub-components.

Gravity accommodates a Bill of Materials (BOM) with a depth of up to five levels. This comprehensive BOM enables the incorporation of materials, labor, and other costs essential for the development of new inventory items. Additionally, a BOM may be generated for a sub-component, which can subsequently be utilized in another BOM.

## Process Steps

- Create an Inventory Item with a Type = Material or Sales Item.
- Assign pricing and defaults to the new item.
- Create a new BOM record in Bill of Materials/Kits of Type = BOM with the parent item set as the item defined above.
- For sub-components set the correct stocking method.
- Add Items or sub-components to the BOM.
- Publish the BOM.

## Labor and Other charges

Gravity allows for the inclusion of Labor and Other charges in a Bill of Materials (BOM) on either a Per Unit or Setup basis. Charges designated as Setup will incur the specified costs only once, regardless of the number of units produced in an Assembly. Conversely, charges categorized as Per Unit will be calculated based on the total number of units produced in the Assembly.

Example:

Assembly created for 5 bikes. BOM includes:

- 1 hr of setup labor flagged as Setup @ $25/hr.
- 2 hr of production labor flagged as per unit @ $35/hr.

When Assembling 5 bikes labor charges will be:

- Setup labor = $25 (one time charge)
- Assembly labor = $350 ($35x2x5 units)

## Stocking Method

Gravity supports the following Stocking Methods when embedding sub-assemblies in another BOM.

- Stock Only - The requirements for the sub-assembly will only come from inventory on hand. If the quantity does not exist the end item will not be built.
- Build Only - The sub-assembly will always be built, even is there is sufficient quantity on hand.
- Build if Needed - If the required quantity of a sub-assembly is on hand that will be used, if not the sub-assembly will be produced.

### Publish (not shown)

This Action will change the Status to Active and allow the BOM to be used in Assemblies.

### (1) Mark Obsolete

This Action will change the Status to Obsolete and not allow the BOM to be used again until it is re-published.

An Obsolete status allows the BOM to remain for historical purposes but it cannot be used in an Assembly

### (2) Edit

This Action will change the Status to Pending and not allow the BOM to be used again it is re-published.

A Pending Status is used to create or edit a BOM.

### (3) Name

Enter an alphanumeric name to represent the BOM.

### (4) Type

Allows the user to select between Kit or Bill of Materials.

### (5) Parent Item

The Inventory Item that has been created as Item Type = Sales Item or Material.

The Parent Item is what will be referenced on an Assembly.

### (6) Status

The current status of the BOM.

### (7) Stock Method

Used to set the default Stocking Method.

Options include:

- Stock Only
- Build Only
- Build if Needed

### (8) Effective Date

The date the BOM becomes available to be used in assemblies.

### (9) Obsolete Date

The date the assembly became obsolete.

### (1) Grid Actions

Select Action to Add, Delete or move an Inventory Item and to Add BOM to the parent BOM on the grid.

### (2) Embedded BOM

When Add BOM is selected the BOM will be added to the parent as a sub-assembly.

Attributes on the sub assembly cannot be edited on the main BOM, they have to be edited on the BOM for the sub-assembly.

### (3) Status

Shows the status of the Inventory Item added to the grid.

### (4) Stocking Method

Shows the selected Stocking Method for the sub-assembly.

### (5) Cost Type

Shows the Cost Type defined for labor or other items added to the BOM.

### (6) Description

Displays the description of the Inventory Item added to the grid.

### (7) Routing Step

For future use

### (8) UOM

Displays the Unit of Measure for the Inventory Item added to the grid.

### (9) Design Quantity

Enter the Quantity of the selected item in the BOM.

### (10) Scrap Percentage

If there is predefined amount of the item that will be scrapped or destroyed in the process you can enter the percentage of product that is becomes unusable.

### (11) Required Quantity

The Required Quantity is a factor of the Design Quantity + the Scrap %.

If the Design Quantity = 10 and the Scrap % = 10%, the Required Quantity = 11

### (12) Comment

Optional - Enter additional comments relating the Inventory Item added to the grid.
